Deck & Creator Spotlight: Zodiac Love Match by Kerry Ward — A Closer Look

by | Apr 10, 2026

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering “Who’s on the cards for me?” or “Are we compatible?”, the Zodiac Love Match Oracle Deck by Kerry Ward, is designed to answer exactly that. I got my hands on it recently, and as someone who loves decks that combine structure, intuition, and practical guidance, I was immediately intrigued. Kerry, with over 30 years of tarot experience, has poured her expertise and personal insights on love into this deck, making it feel like having a tarot reader by your side at all times.

Unboxing + Flipthrough

My First Impressions

Right out of the box, this deck feels thoughtful and approachable. Kerry’s goal of combining tarot-like structure with the openness of an oracle deck is obvious: it’s accessible, easy to navigate, and perfect for anyone curious about love, compatibility, or personal growth in relationships.

The deck is organized with a 3-part, color-coded system:

  • Red cards (Star Signs) for who you’re connecting with or calling in.
  • Blue cards (Action) for how to navigate, grow, or release a relationship.
  • Yellow cards (Future) for likely outcomes or directions in your love life.

This simple system immediately makes reading feel structured without feeling rigid.

The red cards also includes The Free Spirit, The Soulmate, The Best Friend and The Ex.

The Artwork

The illustrations by Lèa Chassagne are a standout. Each card strikes a balance between cosmic and human, abstract yet deeply expressive. Kerry intentionally avoided overly literal human depictions, instead opting for a surreal, symbolic approach that can reflect any kind of relationship dynamic.

Every image feels intentional, telling a story of emotion, pattern, or connection. Zodiac traits are cleverly woven into the visuals, so you can interpret energy beyond just the card title.

Box, Card, and Finish

The deck comes in a sturdy, visually appealing box that’s easy to store and handle. The cards have a smooth finish with the color-coding system integrated into the backs and edges, making sorting and reading quick and intuitive.

Personally, the finish feels a bit more like flashcards than a traditional oracle deck, so shuffling might be slightly uncomfortable at first. That said, the cards are still sturdy enough for repeated use, whether you’re doing a single-card pull or a full 3-card spread.

Guidebook

Kerry’s guidebook is a mix of practical advice and cosmic wisdom. It’s written in her signature grounded style, so you don’t need to be an astrology expert to use the deck effectively. It covers everything from basic card interpretations to practical exercises.

How the Deck Works

The deck is flexible: pull a single card for insight, or use a 3-card “Love Forecast” spread to get a full picture of who, how, and what in your love life. It also works for manifestation exercises: call in the energy you want to attract, visualize your ideal partner, or set intentions for your relationships.

The deck doesn’t only focus on romantic love — Kerry built it so action and future cards apply to friendships, family relationships, and personal growth too.

Reading Style and Themes

You can approach Zodiac Love Match in many ways:

  • Quick daily insight: One card pull for reflection.
  • Three-card love spread: Who, how, and what (red, blue, yellow).
  • Manifestation: Use three cards to map your ideal connection.
  • Ritual work: Simple candle or release rituals tied to specific cards.

The deck’s versatility is one of its strongest points — it’s as effective in a solo self-reflection session as it is in a reading for friends or clients.

Interview with Kerry Ward

To learn more about Zodiac Love Match, I asked Kerry Ward about the inspiration behind the deck, the artwork, and the creative process.

The Deck Itself

Eisel: What inspired you to create this love-focused oracle deck, and what makes it unique?

Interview with Kerry Ward

Kerry: The core vision definitely originated from doing love readings professionally for folk all over the world these last 10 years and seeing the universal issues and questions people have. We are all quite similar in our relationship building, nurturing and collapses. The same behaviours and emotions emerge.

I wanted to make something that people could use at home, themselves, in between having a big reading. Something that would be a source of comfort, truth and hope.

I wanted to share the wisdom and experience, and therefore advice, I had gleaned from immersing in other people’s relationships for so long.

The deck IS unique because of the 3-card love reading system I devised (and because I guess ALL oracle decks are unique, each has its own eco-system).

I am a tarot reader through and through, I like a system, so I wanted my first oracle deck to have a system too. I colour coded the cards- who (red), what to do (blue), outcome (yellow, which I remember by thinking “yellow brick road”!). So that folk can pick one card from each colour and, voila, they have their own full love prediction OR they can zoom in on who / what / outcome cards to answer specific relevant questions. Adding something unique to each of my decks is important to me.

Art, Style and Symbolism

E: Why did you choose an abstract, collage-based style, and how are zodiac traits and symbolism expressed in the cards? Are there any standout or favorite designs?

K: I wanted the visual style to be universal, kinda’ abstract (because there are ALL kinds of different relationship make-ups and chemistries and dynamics to cover, I didn’t want to try and have to “box tick” every permeation, so abstract allows inclusivity without that inauthentic and unachievable “pressure”). Collage felt like a good option here because it’s not realistic but can include elements of realism, and has strong symbolism potential.

The imagery of the cards was very much a collaboration between the artist, my editor Lisa Dyer, and myself. Every deck I do has a different dynamic when it comes to the illustration process. Sometimes the artist just goes for it themselves, sometimes the editor is heavily involved. I’d say the latter here, as Lisa has a good eye and really “manages” the decks she produces.

I have worked in all kinds of dynamics (now on my 10th illustrated creation) and there’s no magic formula, I’ve had things go wrong in every dynamic, and things go right when I least expected it!

The zodiac cards are pretty much aligned with the astrology symbol of that sign, except Virgo because it’s a virgin, and that felt like a “weird” one to illustrate so we did a fox for Virgo’s cleverness and earthy element.

The action cards are very symbolic and the illustrator had a lot of free reign here, deciding from the card descriptions what to pick out and use.

The outcome cards are typically landscapes which, again, align to the nature of the outcome. Myself and the editor picked these.

My favourite cards are: do the groundwork, the free spirit, don’t drink the poison, set a deadline, universal love, spill the tea, align future goals, uncharted territory.

I think the inclusion of star signs has been very helpful in terms of cards being easily interpreted, and working beyond just a flat “who” question, because you get to use the nature and traits of those star signs too. So it might not be that your next lover IS a Virgo but that they embody their traits, and that’s an automatic universal language and understanding folk have (who like astrology, anyway).

Your Process as a Creator

E: How did the concept and structure of the deck come together, and what was the key “lightbulb moment”? How do you keep your work accessible?

K: This deck probably took 18 months – 2 years from start to finish. Lisa and I had the broad idea of a “love oracle deck” and then I created the 3-card system which felt like the “lightbulb moment” in knowing exactly how to structure it, how many cards and what they’d be. I could then imagine how people would use it and that’s the “click” I need to happen before an idea is really viable. You have to imagine it out in the world, without you holding its hand!

I always write everything I do very accessibly and without dense, obscure or overly esoteric content so that folk can connect to it on any level. I am a “MAINSTREAM MYSTIC” really, and not sorry about it! I want to spread the word, show people they can do this, and have them feel relaxed about it. Astrology is, I find, easy to write about and connect to people with because EVERYONE IN THE WORLD wants to hear about themselves!

Personal Connection to the Deck

E: How does this deck reflect your personal voice and experience, and how do you use it yourself? What kind of guidance does it offer beyond astrology?

K: There’s a lot of “me” in this deck because it’s just my voice, without the tarot cards guiding me or nudging me into their wise flow. SO, this oracle is MY voice about what I know and have learned about relationships. It’s straight, direct, honest advice and guidance. I really enjoyed writing the back section of the book which is a free-style essay of my greatest insights and I think people have enjoyed reading “my take” on things.

The deck is much more than just about astrological compatibility. It will advise you of actions needed, outcomes likely, behaviours to adopt, tactics to try, things to manifest and wish for. The astrology part is really only 16 cards of 48 cards.

You can also use it for non-love readings too. I have walked a very fine balance in the guidebook between making the guidance fit friendship / family relationships too, so it has a broader scope than just romance, if folk want to use it beyond that realm.

I use this deck in my life for my love readings. It cuts to the chase. It gives direct answers on where things are heading, the potential, the action to take now, the person ahead or who’d be right for folk etc.

Looking Back on the Experience

E: What did creating this deck teach you, how are people using it, and how would you like them to engage with it more deeply?
K: I learned, or rather reinforced, how important it is to have a strong concept / structure / USP when creating a deck, especially an oracle deck as they start “from scratch”. Otherwise, you don’t know what you’re writing, the illustrator don’t know what they’re drawing, and the editor don’t know what they’re selling.

I think people like using this deck with friends, at gatherings or evenings in when they’re chatting about their love lives. It provokes conversation and stimulates new ways of looking at situations that have been discussed a million times. We all get trapped in our own heads about our relationships, only seeing our own point of view, and feeling sensitive about it all. It can be paralysing. This deck helps free up the thinking, the mindset, and the options.

I wish people would use this deck to challenge their thinking about their relationships, to provoke discussion with their partner and come at things from different angles. It’s there as a stimulant to good conversation, open-minded thinking, alongside tangible steps to take. All of the advice is tried, tested, and shaped by years of experience helping people into, through and out of relationships. The wheel never stops turning. Never get stuck.

Who It’s For

This deck is perfect for:

✔ Astrology lovers curious about relationship dynamics.

✔ Anyone navigating a current love situation or seeking clarity.

✔ Modern mystics, romantic realists, or heart-healing empaths.

✔ Readers looking to add structured love guidance to their practice.

It’s approachable enough for beginners but rich enough for experienced readers to enjoy.

My Honest Thoughts

Zodiac Love Match is a thoughtful and versatile deck that brings Kerry Ward’s extensive experience and Lèa Chassagne’s stunning artwork together beautifully. The guidance is clear, practical, and meaningful, and the deck’s structure makes it easy to gain insights quickly.

That said, the physical quality could be improved. The cards feel more like flashcards than a traditional oracle deck, which can make shuffling and fanning the cards a bit awkward, and the guidebook could use more space in the spine for easier reading. The box and overall finish could also be a bit smoother to reflect the care put into the deck’s content.

I also imagine this deck would be perfect for hangouts with friends, as Kerry mentioned earlier. It’s playful, conversation-starting, and insightful — the kind of deck that sparks fun discussions, encourages new perspectives on love, and helps friends explore their relationships together.

Despite these handling quirks, the deck itself is full of heart, offering accessible, actionable, and astrologically-informed guidance for love, relationships, and self-reflection. It’s a valuable tool for both personal exploration and readings for others.
