50 Good Questions to Ask Tarot About Your Life

by | Aug 25, 2026

Sometimes the hardest part of a Tarot reading isn’t reading the cards.

It’s figuring out what the hell to ask.

You sit down with your deck, shuffle the cards, and suddenly your mind goes completely blank.

“What should I ask?”

“What’s going to happen to me?”

“Does the universe have anything to say?”

Or you end up asking the same question you’ve asked approximately 47 times before.

Tarot can be incredibly useful for self-reflection, decision-making, and getting a different perspective on what’s happening in your life. But the questions you ask matter.

You don’t always need to ask Tarot to predict what is going to happen.

Sometimes the better question is about what you can understand, change, prepare for, or pay attention to.

So if you’re sitting there staring at your deck wondering what to ask, here are 50 questions to get you started.

✦ How to Ask Better Questions

Before we get into the list, there’s one thing I want to point out.

You don’t have to ask Tarot a perfectly worded question.

There isn’t some magical formula that makes a reading work.

But I’ve found that questions focused on your own choices, patterns, feelings, and circumstances tend to give you much more to work with than questions that hand all of your power over to fate.

For example, instead of:

“Will I get the job?”

You could ask:

“What do I need to know about this job opportunity?”

Or:

“What can I do to improve my chances?”

Instead of:

“Does this person love me?”

Try:

“What do I need to understand about this relationship?”

The difference is subtle, but important.

You’re not just sitting around waiting for the cards to tell you what will happen. You’re using them to understand what’s happening and what you can do with it.

✦ Life & Direction

When you’re feeling stuck, uncertain, or like you’re somewhere between chapters, these questions can help you get your bearings.

  1. What do I need to know about where I am in life right now?
  2. What deserves more of my attention?
  3. What am I overlooking?
  4. What is currently influencing the direction of my life?
  5. What am I being asked to learn right now?
  6. What should I stop giving my energy to?
  7. Where am I making things harder than they need to be?
  8. What would help me feel more aligned with myself?
  9. What part of my life is ready for a change?
  10. What should I focus on in this next chapter?

These are especially useful when you don’t have one specific problem you’re trying to solve.

Sometimes you just need to step back and look at the bigger picture.

✦ Self & Personal Growth

Tarot is a really good mirror.

Not because the cards magically know everything about you, but because they can help you look at something from an angle you may not have considered.

  1. What am I not being honest with myself about?
  2. What pattern keeps repeating in my life?
  3. What is this pattern trying to teach me?
  4. Where am I holding myself back?
  5. What fear is influencing my decisions?
  6. What strength am I not giving myself enough credit for?
  7. What part of myself needs more compassion?
  8. What am I ready to let go of?
  9. What belief is no longer serving me?
  10. What would help me trust myself more?

Some of these questions might give you answers you don’t particularly enjoy.

That’s part of the point.

A good Tarot reading isn’t always going to tell you what you want to hear. Sometimes the most useful card is the one that makes you sit there for a minute and think, “Okay. I probably needed to hear that.”

✦ Love & Relationships

You can ask Tarot about relationships without turning every reading into an investigation of someone else’s feelings.

In fact, some of the most useful relationship questions have very little to do with what another person is thinking.

  1. What do I need to understand about my current relationship?
  2. What am I bringing into my relationships that needs attention?
  3. What pattern am I repeating in love?
  4. What am I actually looking for in a relationship?
  5. What am I settling for?
  6. What do I need to learn from my past relationships?
  7. What makes me feel genuinely loved and supported?
  8. What red flag am I ignoring?
  9. What green flag should I pay more attention to?
  10. How can I create healthier relationships?

And yes, you can ask about the person you’re thinking about.

Just remember that Tarot can be much more useful when you bring the focus back to yourself.

Instead of spending an hour asking what they’re thinking, what they’re feeling, what they’re doing, what they secretly want, and whether they’re going to text you…

You could ask:

“What do I need to know about my connection with this person?”

That question might tell you a lot more.

✦ Career & Money

You don’t need to ask Tarot to predict your entire career.

Sometimes you just need help figuring out where your energy is best spent.

  1. What do I need to know about my current career path?
  2. What is keeping me from moving forward professionally?
  3. What strength can I bring into my work?
  4. What opportunity am I overlooking?
  5. What should I prioritize in my career right now?
  6. What does my current relationship with money need me to understand?
  7. What belief about money is holding me back?
  8. Where should I be more intentional with my resources?
  9. What direction could bring me greater fulfillment in my work?
  10. What practical step can I take toward my goals?

These questions can be especially helpful when you’re trying to make a decision but feel too close to the situation to see it clearly.

The cards don’t have to make the decision for you.

They can help you explore the decision.

✦ When You Need the Tea

Now we’re getting to the fun part.

Sometimes you don’t want a gentle spiritual lesson.

Sometimes you want to sit down with your Tarot deck and ask it the question you’ve been avoiding.

  1. What am I pretending not to know?
  2. What am I romanticizing?
  3. What am I avoiding because I already know the answer?
  4. What situation needs a reality check?
  5. Where am I giving someone too much power over me?
  6. What would change if I stopped chasing this?
  7. What is this situation actually teaching me?
  8. What do I need to hear but probably don’t want to hear?
  9. What would happen if I trusted my own judgment?
  10. What is the most important thing I need to remember right now?

Some of my favorite Tarot questions are the ones that make me slightly uncomfortable.

Not because Tarot needs to be harsh, but because sometimes we already know something deep down and we’re looking for permission to admit it.

✦ You Don’t Need to Ask Tarot About Everything

One of the biggest things I learned over the years is that you don’t need to pull cards for every decision, every text message, every interaction, and every tiny change in your life.

Sometimes the answer is simply to live.

Go experience the situation.

Have the conversation.

Make the decision.

See what happens.

Tarot can be a wonderful tool for reflection, but it shouldn’t replace your own judgment.

If you find yourself asking the same question over and over because you don’t like the answer you received, that’s probably a sign to put the cards down for a while.

You already have information.

Now you might need to do something with it.

✦ What Should You Ask Your Tarot Deck?

If you’re completely stuck, start with something simple:

“What do I need to know right now?”

You don’t need a complicated spread.

You don’t need the perfect question.

You don’t even need to know exactly what you’re looking for.

Sometimes one card is enough to start a conversation with yourself.

And if you want to get more specific, come back to these 50 questions whenever you need a little direction, a reality check, or, yes, a little tea.
